Monday, Wednesday, Friday, August 2, 4, 6
from 10am-noon
Kids ages 8-12 years old

Kids love to knit! This class for kids ages 8-12 is meant to get them started. They’ll be amazed at how easy it is to learn how to cast on the Scandinavian way and become familiar with various stitches, ribs, and basic techniques as they make basic shapes like a baby/doll blanket, a lap throw, or a hand towel. They’ll also learn to read patterns, which fibers are suitable for hand knitting, and how to care for hand-knitted items. Knowing continental knitting will make advanced techniques easier to learn and master.

This class meets in the Owl Hall on the main floor of the Education Wing.

Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, the Cultural Center will take additional precautions to keep everyone on our campus safe. The improvements we made to our ventilation system and other aspects of our facility during the pandemic continue to contribute to the safety of our constituents, but we also expect all people who have not been fully vaccinated to wear masks at all times while in our buildings.

Kirsten, a native of Denmark, was born and raised on the island of Fyn, where farming, fishing, "hygge" and knitting is still a way of life. Kirsten learned to knit at an early age from her mother Marie, who was an expert knitter, sewer, embroiderer and bobbin lace maker. In the mid 1980's Kirsten co-founded Nordic Artisans, a boutique mail order company that imported artisanal Rauma yarn from Norway. Nordic Artisans featured traditional Norwegian sweater, hat and cardigan designs ( patterns) and Kirsten's designs in kit form along with traditional Norwegian pewter buttons and Norwegian wool ribbons. Now retired to Cape Cod, Kirsten is making her knowledge, skills, patterns and products available once again. Come and learn from the master knitter herself and enjoy some genuine Danish Hygge at the same time.
